Here's a question for you: What's better than singing? Stay tuned….

I'm your new Membership Coordinator, replacing Judy Kroll. Judy is staying on in the role of Membership Chair, for which I am very grateful! It might take both of us to get all the tasks done! What a whirlwind half a year in Oregon Spirit!  Do you realize what has happened in this group in the last 6 months?

I joined you in January and attended AIM  in Sacramento with Kathy Scheel and Margie Talley. It was just what I needed to get reacquainted with Sweet Adelines, and it made me realize how much I had missed singing in a chorus. Margie and I have a small group of a'cappella gospel singers, which is very exciting, but we don't usually do barbershop. Our little group of 8 is 4 years old and we sing mainly praise and hymns.

Soon after I joined OSC, I realized I had jumped into the deep end with all the new songs that needed to be ready for the Mar 22, 2014  A'Cappella Magic show at South High. Factor in the Easter production at church with the same amount of new music, and I was on overload. Yikes!

In March, Shirley Kout came to coach us; we had a GREAT show, and then 4 weeks later we went to ADVANCE retreat with Kathy and DeDe. Great fun honing our music and performance skills and positive team-building! Best of all, Carol George was with us! Also in April, just two weeks later, we were at contest in Reno. What a thrill to be part of the first appearance of OSC in Region 12! And look what we accomplished: a score high enough to be invited to Harmony Classic-- one of Kathy's dreams for this chorus.

Many chorus members attended LAW in Eugene. We performed at CCTV, the Iris Festival, and soon  Tierra Rose. Kathy offered 3 weeks of free voice lessons and we had a very successful guest night. Now, this is a busy group of women, with the most awesome director around! I've noticed that ladies step up to help each other. That's one way to provide that feeling of family and camaraderie, by serving each other in cooperation, to make a common goal happen. Then Raymond Schwarzkopft did goal-setting with the chorus. He stressed personal responsibility-reminded us we can only fix ourselves and Kathy can only direct what we are willing to give.

Next week will be our last rehearsal at the current hall. We'll be moving in on July 1 and switching our rehearsal days to Tuesdays. It will be like a new beginning for us. The Micah Building on State & Church St. downtown has a neat ballroom and carpeted worship center on the second floor. I think you'll like it. It will give us a little more room to spread out. You'll get directions and a map soon. Don't worry--it's easy to find.

I'm glad to be a part of this wonderful group, and to be working with such a caring, committed, and talented director. We're on an adventure. Let's nurture each other, keep our attitudes and conversation positive, give the benefit of the doubt, and FLY!!!!!
