On Tuesday night (Jan 23), we've got a lot of things to accomplish and I just know that we're going to have a high-energy time together after this weekend's sessions with Tori Postma!  WOW!    Here are the plans for Tuesday, Jan 23.
  • 7:00-7:20 - (20 min) Warmups - rhythmic and vocal.  Conclude your meetings/chats and be on the risers at 6:59. No nagging needed :)
  • 7:20-7:40- (20 min) Sections review the lessons learned, changes, reminders of what to work on, bricks to climb the musical wall. I'm assuming that your section leaders have already sent you an email with updates.
  • 7:45-8:15 - (30 min) Sing thru contest songs and get an updated recording.  Members who were absent during the weekend will sit with the guests and observe and mark your music, then we want you to get up and sing with us and feel the joy!
  • 8:15-9:00 - (45 min) I'll coach the group that's performing on Feb 2 while Sasanna Botieff will take the rest of you to the Nest to work on the contest  (and other) songs so you can solidify those changes, and guests can get prepared to audition in a couple of weeks.
  • 9:00-9:20 - (20 min) I'll coach the chorus while the guests observe and learn.
  • 9:20-9:30 - (10 min) Chorus chat and brief announcements, sing a parting song
  • 9:30-  Afterglow at Denney's.  This is a fun social gathering to top off the evening, share fun stories, and just relax and giggle before heading home.
Announcements will be made at the end of rehearsal so we can dive right into the musical stuff at the beginning of the evening.  Janet Owen will have a "chorus chat" to let you know about the fun job of Membership Chair, similar to the chorus chat that Sue deBit did last week to tell you about the Finance Chair.  These are just two of the open positions on the management team and they're hoping (needing) to start training people soon.  The other positions that will be open on the management team are:  Ways & Means (fundraising), Marketing, Communications/Secretary, and Events. If you're not sure what each of these jobs are, be sure to review them on the CMT Information Station.  I know that you love this chorus, and serving on the chorus management team (CMT) is a truly meaningful way to "give back", as well as being a great learning experience and a lot of fun. If you are interested in being on the team, but are concerned about doing a job or think it's intimidating to do by yourself, you can find someone to co-chair it with you.  We have the freedom to create whatever works best for OSC; we just need people to fill the positions. So when someone from the Nominating Committee approaches you, please be prepared to say, "YES, I'd  love to learn and help my chorus."

It's a tight schedule on Tuesday nights and I'm counting on each of you to help move things along briskly in our short 2.5 hours together.  Arrive with your voice already warmed up (sirens, bubbles, scales) so we can get that unit sound as quickly as possible.  And when you get on those risers, be ready to PERFORM  at 100%  from the get-go.  Show me and everyone else your dedication to your pursuit of excellence!  When the face and body are totally involved, the voice responds in a very beautiful way!   [Exercise:  Sing in front of a mirror with a dour expression.  Sing again with a fully expressive face and body.  You'll be amazed at the difference!!! HA]

I hope you realize just how talented you are!  YOU have the ability to accomplish amazing things in the next few months as we prepare for contest.  This is my favorite season of the year because we are more focused on getting better and it improves every song in our repertoire for the coming year!  Everyone's skills (including mine) are getting honed and becoming a part of our total musical instruments - and that's soooo exciting.  I'm very competitive and I do love the contest experience but it's not all about contest for me - it's about the IMPROVED QUALITY OF SINGING AND PERFORMING.   Wouldn't it be wonderful to prove to ourselves (and the audience of Region 12) that we have been working hard on our skills...and to earn the "Most Improved Chorus Award".  That would be a lovely gift....ahhhh.   It will take dedicated work throughout the week (not just Tuesdays) and I'm confident that you have the energy and desire to do this!

I can't wait for Tuesday!!!

Love, Kathy
