REHEARSALS THRU CONTEST

posted Feb 14, 2016, 2:23 PM by OregonSpirit
I'm really feeling good about the positive environment we are all experiencing at chorus these days!  It makes my heart warm to know that you are working on your music and vocal skills at home, you've got your Accountability Partners, you're recording yourself and evaluating for self-improvement, getting voice lessons, volunteering for various committees to help in so many ways; there is a tangible feeling of teamwork and happiness!  With everyone's eyes on our shared goals, we can achieve our dreams!

One of our dreams/goals is to score 600+ points (B+ level) at the Regional Competition and those of you who have been through a contest season with OSC realize that it takes dedicated work and focus.  I love this time of year because of that increased focus on improving our skills each week!  But it also takes more than the limited time we have together (7:00-9:15).  Starting in March, we will add an hour to our rehearsal time by starting at 6:00.    Here's how our Tuesdays will look:

6:00 - 6:30    Choreography sessions, building muscle memory, characterization, body language
6:30 - 9:15    Vocals / Unity / Energy
9:15 - 9:30    Announcements / Cleanup

[NOTE:  On March 1, Gail Shelton is working with the Tenors from 6:00-7:00, so this new pre-contest rehearsal schedule will be effective March 8 and continue through contest in May.]

I hope you truly know that YOU are important in every way - without YOUR voice, YOUR body, YOUR sweet spirit, the chorus does not sound or look the same.  You are missed.  If you are not on the risers, it's impossible to finalize the riser chart until I can actually hear ALL of the voices and how they work together in the best way possible.  And it's very difficult to achieve the unity that is required in every judging category.

If you absolutely must miss a rehearsal, here are my expectations:
  1. Before rehearsal:  Contact your section leader and me.
  2. After rehearsal:
    • Check with your section leader or Accountability Partner on what you missed - both in terms of musical work and announcements, since most news will be about the 2016 Regional Convention/ Competition on May 13-15 in Sparks (Reno), Nevada.
    • Study the videos that will be loaded on our website each week and catch up on what you missed so we can continue to our forward motion.

Love,

Kathy
