PERFORMANCE SONGS - Keep 'em Fresh

We've got an wonderful performances coming up on May 17 in Stayton and I want to be sure you're keeping the songs "fresh" by rehearsing them on your own time.  Since we only have 2-1/2 hours together each week, it's difficult to get through all of the songs in our repertoire as frequently as we'd all like, so I'm counting on each of you.  The list of songs is shown at the bottom of this post, and as you rehearse them, here are some tips and reminders:
 
  • Drink a lot of water to hydrate the vocal cords.  They are muscles that require lots & lots of lubrication.
  • Warm up your voice for about 5-10 minutes before singing.
  • Seek out 1 hour of uninterrupted time - no kids, pets, spouses, electronics - just you and the music.
  • Always sing at your very highest level of proficiency.  If you just sing thru it without your best skills, you're just reinforcing mediocre singing habits, and less-than-best muscle memory.
  • Record yourself and analyze what you can do even better next time.   And pat yourself on the back for the things you are doing well. Use the Performance Readiness form to see how you improve each time.  Give yourself this gift of accomplishment!
