JULY PLANS

Back in January during our chorus chat, we all decided to try something new this summer - and that time is upon us!  In order to give everyone a chance to enjoy family trips or just take a small break from chorus, we only have 2.5 rehearsals scheduled this month.  This plan is also intended to keep the musical product moving forward as you each committed to:
  • learn the notes and words to the three new songs at home before 7/17,
  • reinforce the vocal skills regularly at home,
  • attend the two rehearsals.
This is a great schedule, and if it works, we'll likely try something similar again next summer:
  • July 3:  Performing group only, 90-minute rehearsal from 7:00-8:30
  • July 10:  Dark
  • July 17:  Full rehearsal, everyone attend. The expectation is for each person to know the 3 new songs well enough that we can sing thru them with very little problem.  Please don't expect to start sight-reading the music that night! Just think how exciting it will be to hear these new songs!  The learning materials were provided over a month ago, so do whatever it takes to be absolutely terrific.    This evening, we'll also have a chorus chat about a few hot topics of interest to everyone:
    • Volunteerism (Elaine Rosenberg)
    • Costumes (Linda O'Donnell/Cindy Meyers)
    • Chorus trip (send me your ideas and  I'll put them on a flipchart to 'vote'
    • Scrip program options
  • July 24:  Sectionals with Section Leaders in charge from 7:00-9:00; everyone attend. Your section leaders are working hard to be prepared and they would like every voice in order to make great progress . Sectionals are NOT for teaching you the notes; they are for working on unity, addressing problem areas and tuning issues, working out timing and breaths, reinforcing good vocal skills, working on blend, vowel matching, etc.
  • July 31:  Dark; because most of the chorus indicated plans to attend Oregon Days the previous weekend of July 28-29; however, if only a few members are registered, I will consider reinstating this rehearsal so we can continue to solidify the new songs.  Go to www.sairegion12.org to register today!
Looking ahead to August....just 3 rehearsals, and 3 new songs, plus the national anthem to open the Volcanoes game, the garage sale, and the girls' beach trip!  PLEASE plan to attend each of the scheduled rehearsals (Aug 7, 14, 21) as YOUR voice makes the difference!  YOU are important.  YOU are needed.

As the song goes, "As one, we are united - as one in song.  We are one in song!"

Love, Kathy
