I went to the Straight No Chaser concert last night and came away with some fresh ideas and reminders of how to entertain an audience.  The three main elements are:
  • Energy - sense of humor, showing our fun personality
  • Staging - not standing in one place, using the entire stage, interesting lighting and backgrounds
  • Quality - excellent singing, tuning, precision
Their concert inspired me and these things will be my personal driving factors for the coming year as we embark on our chorus plans.  Here is a brief overview of the first three months, so you can be sure these dates are on your personal and home calendars (so the family knows).

  • 5: We start off with our traditional 1st Saturday Session with lots of singing and important presentations. If you miss it, check with your section leader to see what you missed and see Kathy's Korner for a full list of what will be covered.
  • 25-27:  Adventures in Music (AIM) is Jan 25-27 in Sacramento.  Hope some of you are planning to attend with me.  Registration is open on the Region 12 website:  www.sairegion12.org and the classes will once again will terrific!
  • 9-10: Tori Postma (Showmanship Judge) is coming to coach us at the Elks. She will help us polish the visual element of our songs.
  • 14:  Valegrams will be a musical and fun way to surprise people on Valentine's Day. Hope you've got your quartets put together and are rehearsing the easy songs.
  • 16:  We're featured performers on the Oregon Trail Pitchpipers show in Canby.  We're working on a 20-minute entertainment package that's going to be awesome!
  • 9-10:  Lea Beverley (Expression Judge) will come to our Advance (we don't call it a retreat) weekend at the Canby Grove (yes, in Canby).  More info coming to you soon on this.
