We have a performance on July 7th and will be working on the following songs in the coming weeks:
  • Somebody to Love
  • Star-Spangled Banner
  • Peace on Earth
  • All the Way
  • Happy Together
  • Can't Buy Me Love
  • And So it Goes
  • Sweet Dreams
  • All the Things You Are
  • Who's Sorry Now
We will also be adding some new songs this summer at regular rehearsals and in sectionals.  Some of these may be familiar to a few of you who've been members for several years so that will help the learning curve.  We're updating some of the learning tracks, but even a piano track can help you learn the material.   Another way to learn songs is to invite a few of the others from your section over to your house for a mini-session - combining work and play!  Be the model for your section; the A-level singer work works on the music ahead of time. Mark your music in places that need work, and ask your section leader to spend a little focused time there, but please don't expect her to teach you the notes and words of the songs.

Wouldn't it be awesome if everyone came to the rehearsals with all the notes and words already learned, so we could work on unit sound, dynamics, vowels, and all that other cool stuff?  YOU make the difference!   Here's the priority list for the new songs:
  1. Consider Yourself - new welcome song  to replace Sing & Celebrate
  2. Forgotten Dreams/Long Ago & Far Away - refresh
  3. Fun in Just One Lifetime - two songs become one
  4. The Way You Look Tonight -  almost learned it last year - will replace And so it Goes
  5. Sister Act - will let you know the cost per person
  6. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - will replace Happy Together
  7. I Will Survive - will replace Can't Buy Me Love
  8. The Parting Glass - refresh
  9. Happy Birthday - refresh
  10. [Plus....After You've Gone - 2019 contest uptune - I'm tweaking a bit; should be ready by July]

This summer is an experiment to see if taking some time off will work in terms of learning new music, while keeping our singing skills strong and moving forward.  Be sure you've got the dates marked on your personal calendars at home (refer to the chorus calendar on this website), and hopefully you can take vacations on the weeks when OSC is "dark" so we'll have most of you at rehearsals this summer.  Please let me know in advance if you are going to be absent from a regular scheduled rehearsal; and let your section leader know if you will be absent from a sectional.  It's really helpful if we know ahead of time so we can adjust the plan, if necessary.

I'm eager to get back to work on Tuesday - to hear your glorious voices again!

Love, Kathy
